Jolie heaped praise thus: > Proper gear and preparation can't off course, prevent every tragedy; but > from the insinuations in the article, it sounds like lack of proper > paddling attire or equivalent was a significant factor. More information > would be beneficial, but ultimately, does not this incident once again > demonstrate the primal fallacy with respect to individual safety > awareness? <snip> >>Doug--you are an awesome wordsmith. Are you a professional writer? Just curious. --------- Jolie, Obviously you are new to PW have have not experienced my Babblewise over the years! No, I hate writing, but love my sport intensely and the connection it gives me to my natural world. We do have some very gifted writers on PW I look up to, as evidenced by ralph and others who avoid viscidity while retaining transparency. Some of the best posts come from new paddlers that present new ideas or challenge existing perspectives. Grammar and prose don't matter. I've stuck with PW, despite huge pressures from my family, because I still have a lot to learn. I too will miss Jackie very much, and will try my utmost to make Kirk's life easier. As should we all. In terms of writing for magazines, I'd be lost without the kind patience of editors like Chris at SK Mag. An approachable editor can significantly aid the collective output of a kayaking community. You know, on the whole Jolie, I feel it a privilege to be part of the wider North American paddling community and only hope we can preserve our favorite haunts for future generations. Okay, back to learning to walk again...
