About 6 or more members of the Florida Sea Kayaking Assn decorated their boats and paraded in front of the spectators on the sea walk in St Augustine Florida prior to the start of the Regatta of Lights and again afterward. It was recommended by one of our group that we forget about trying to be "IN" the parade as we would get run over by the larger boats (he was right). I haven't seen any photos of our boats and I am not sure any were taken by us or anyone who knew us. We may have been on local cable TV but none of us live in that cable provider's area. We are going to do this again next year. The spectators loved it and we had a great time providing them with a diversion before the start of the main event! We used battery operated lights. The strings of colored mini Christmas lights were purchased at a local craft store (99 cents for a string of 10). We stored the battery packs in watertight containers and plastic bags. We managed to keep all the lights dry and none were shorted out by the marine environment. One boat sported a 12" Christmas tree strung with lights and ornaments on the rear deck. One boat had lights strung in the shape of stars on the foredeck and the paddler wore a lighted star ornament on her head. One boat had an 18" clear cone with lights inside and a star on top that looked like a decorated tree in the dark (on the bow). The same boat had an 18" snowman lit from within by battery operated lights on the stern Several boats were decorated with strings of assorted color Christmas lights along their deck lines.
