Is there a pink flamingo support group forming?

On my second trip through the Grand Canyon [1986] I hid one of my lawn
flamingos [I used to always put two outside my tent when I was teaching at
the Madawaska Kanu Centre] in my dry bag. On about the fifth night of the
two week trip I put one in the middle of the camp circle. The reaction was
worth the trouble of carrying the thing.

He [the flamingo] got his side stove in when the hull got compressed from
something I did in Crystal, but he lives on to decorate my campsites still.

There's someone in my neighborhood, not me, who, for Christmas, puts a santa
and sleigh on his front lawn. The sleigh is being pulled by a bunch of
flamingos, the first of which has his beak painted bright red.

What joy kitsch can bring!

Excellent inspiration!
Now I would like to know what you did in Crystal to wreck that flamingo ;-)

I would have told the whole story if I knew it. All I know is that I had a
clean run at Crystal [as I, thankfully, have always had], surfed a few
waves, peeled out into the edge of the big hole, played around in the eddies
on the left side of the rapid, and when I unpacked to camp, the pink bird
had its left side sitting where its middle used to be. It makes it possible
to tell the two apart, and the injured one is now 20 years old, so I guess
no animals were harmed in the production of this non-epic.
