After reading about them in the Colorado women article, and then Joan's (?) response, I went ahead and ordered the Ocoee Duffel (from altrec.com, but NRS has them as well). I've been gazing at it for several days...it's a wee bit on the small side for seventy-two dollars! I don't think I'm going to be able fit much in there. Another thing, the shape seems a bit awkward. Does anybody have this model and would care to comment? What do you put in there? The Colorado Duffel is $150 and I'm wondering how well it fits through hatches. Anyone have this style? Can anyone think of any reason why I shouldn't return it? sandy kramer who was pretty generous with herself this xmas and is looking at all those nasty credit card statements! *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). I use a couple of drybags the Watershed and the Gaia for ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY MUST NOT GET WET gear and the rest of the gear gets standard drybags, if that. I can think of camera lenses, filters, passport, down sleeping bag, etc., that qualify on the aforementioned list. The watershed lip seal is impressive enough to withstand a dozen rolls without a drop. I use Watersheds smaller, flatter version as a deck bag and I trust a backup set of 12 ga flares and a non h2o proof point and shoot in there. That bag has convenient attach points to run buckles through for clip on-clip off access. The Ocoee does seem a bit small but if you have a lower volume kayak, that's about the largest you can jam into the hatches! <<<I use Watersheds smaller, flatter version as a deck bag >>> Thanks, Rob. Didn't realize (til I checked just now) that they had so many different models. That IS a nice-looking deck bag. sandy *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). Watershed bags are the driest bags that I've ever used. Luckily, they're made right here in Asheville and I've had the opportunity to use several different models for both whitewater and touring. I paddle an Impex (also here in Asheville) Serenity with fairly large hatches. I have found that the Chattooga is the best size to fit thru my hatches. I've also found the "Stowfloat" called the Futa to be indispensable. It's essentially designed as a large bombproof whitewater floatation bag with storage capability tapered to fit the stern of a whitewater playboat. It's perfect for small lightweight crushable items (fleece, capilene, etc.) and maximizes the storage in the bow and stern. They're easy to get in and out too. FYI, I don't recommend that you do this but you can stuff a 20 degree synthetic sleeping bag into a Chattooga bag, put in on the back deck of your boat and do beach landing in heavy winds and 4 1/2 ft surf without getting your bag wet. They may be a little pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for.
