Superior Kayak's graphite paddle is shaped like their wooden ones. The
shaft is thick only because that it is supposed to be that way for the type
of paddling the paddle is intended to be used for. I've tested it. It
feels exactly like my wooden inuit paddle except that it is so light I had
to remember to put it into the water - it didn't just "fall" in by its own
weight because it has almost no weight. If I wasn't so cheap, I would own
one. I like the thickness of the shaft.

I think that 'supposed', 'wrong', and 'too' has very little relevance
when describing the traditional paddle, or rather, the diversity of
traditional paddle shapes, configurations and preferences associated
with such.
