[Paddlewise] A Good idea

A good idea that I use:

Buy a small dry bag (10-15 litre), red in color. Keep this in the cockpit of
the kayak with you at all times. I used a black permanent marker and drew a +
on it to signify first aid/emergency. In this bag, I keep a first aid kit, my
hand-held marine radio (with extra batteries in a waterproof bag), some
snacks, fire starter (magnesium), and my camera. If needed, you can buy a
short length of climbing rope, and attach the bag to a d-ring on your PFD.

In utilizing this, even if flip, you will always, always always have emergency
equipment with you. Also, this prevents any equipment getting wet (reference
the recent mailing of ruined I Com radios).

It is a good practice to get into, and can be a life-saver.
