Another alternative, if you have a partner to make sure you roll it up right, is the dry suit, dry pant combo (e.g. Kokatat). I had a gortex top with nylon bottom, and I did some ww swims and sea kayak rescues and was dry. Some people manage this alone, but I always did better with help. The gortex/nylon combo seems to work ok for heat management, but of course full gortex is better. This has a little more risk, but it also costs quite a bit less than a drysuit, and should you be able to afford a drysuit later, a dry top is nice with a fuzzy rubber john/jane at other times. I believe as long as you seal it well, you will be ok, and if you size it so full movement doesn't cause it to try and unroll. (If you don't know how this work, the top and the bottom roll up together not unlike a dry bag!) jen *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
