My late father was in charge of barging for Valley Camp Coal in West Virginia 32 years on the Kanawha River. As a child I used to ride the river boats and listen to the pilots talk about handling the tugs at flood. Judging from the pictures Steve is right. The pilot was trying to back away until he hit then he was totally helpless. The amazing thing is that none of the crew did a wet exit. (although I am sure a few wet their pants) Bob *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
