I was there about four years ago and found people renting them on 
the beach for an hourly rate. Mostly short sit-on-top boats with 
very heavy aluminum paddles. There isn't really any surf in Zihuatanejo,
but if you cross the bay to an area called cat's something or other 
(Playa del Gato maybe?), you get some breakers there and some longer 
runs. Ixtapa has a bit bigger surf, but they are not really nice 
breaks, mosty just beach stuff.

I didn't see any "real" boats when I was there but did take a few 
of the reantals out and had a nice time.
