There is an implosion bar built in and I don't know how much that contributes. I do know that I have had waves break on top of me, I have capsized in rough dumping surf--and this skirt does NOT come off--until I release it. The first time I did a wet exit in it, I had to specifically think about why I wasn't able to just fall out of the cockpit.
