Polyester doesn't stretch and is much more UV resistant than nylon. If
you want to get fancy, buy some 2 mm or 3 mm utility cord from your
local (or mail order) climbing supply. Looks sharp, abrasion resistant
(braided sheath), lasts a long time. You can find similar line at a
boating supply store.

I see REI has a fluorescent Kelty guy line with a Spectra core for
$15/50'. Very hi-tech, but Spectra is subject to UV damage.

The cheap plastic pegs are bulky, don't hold well and often break.
What's best depends on the ground. A nice all-round peg is the type made
from half-round or angle aluminum. If you plant them properly they'll
hold in a variety of soils and be easy to place and to remove. Go mail
order; REI has a nice variety of pegs- check out the SMC Sno-Stakes.

I love this stuff! Amazing how well it reflects in the dark. Has
saved me from tripping over guy lines many times! And if you
want to find your bear bag at night... lights it right up.

Also strong and lightweight (I use it when backpacking) although
I'd guess there is something out there that works as well but is
a lot cheaper.

Half-round aluminum stakes pack nicely, too, as they can be nested together, but they are perhaps best suited for snow and sand.
