This is not that useful a comment but the best tent stakes that I have every had were called Twizel Pegs. They were a light weight plastic that you could essentially screw into the ground. They had large threads on them. They held very well for their size (they have at least a small and a large size). They were particularly good for the trampled ground that is seen in most campgrounds at this time. On beaches I usually use driftwood appropriate to the softness of the sand. I bought mine about 20 years ago. Never saw them again. Now that the internet came into being I finally found a source in Italy and I actually arranged to by a lifetime supply via an Italian friend.
