I've been trying to find information of public shorelines in Washington
State, and asking the Department of Ecology brought me several links,
including this one:

http://www.ecy.wa.gov/apps/shore photos/index.html

They have photos for every section of (salt-water) shoreline in the state,
from the air. This might be useful for 'previewing' a tour, working with a
map to get a more visual sense of the area, finding possible landing spots,
getting a look at the ecology and vegetation inland.

Are there any other states which have online shoreline photography like Washington?

Elias and P'wisers,

The link you posted shows all the shorelines of Washington, public and private.

Careful planning will help avoid confrontations with owners that are not
willing to share their shore.

Here in WA we are facing further reductions of our public parks. The WA
Dept. of Natural Resources is thinking about closing several parks in
the San Juan Islands because of budgetary considerations and these are
very popular kayaking camps. This will only aggravate the public/private
issue.

Good luck in planning your tour.

Paul

I was able to find my house on those shoreline photos! :-) It was
actually a friend in NZ who sent me the link to that site a few months
ago. The beach is always changing - a good deal during Winter months.
It's interesting to see how much the beach has changed in the few
years since those photos were taken as well.

The very clear, close up color photos are much nicer than the
terraserver satellite photos. That site is a wonderful resource for
anyone paddling these waters.

Does anyone know if there are similar shoreline photo services for
Alaskan and BC waters?

I live on a public shoreline, so no problems with landing on my beach!
(well... except for really big dumping surf sometimes).
