'Mornin, P'Wise - Last night, I was browsing the GORP web site looking at destination descriptions. I was paying some attention to the link below, which is for the Suwannee River in southern Georgia. http://www.gorp.com/gorp/publishers/menasha/pad_suwa.htm In the "side bar", under the label "Difficulty", it says "International Scale 1; Numerical Points 5". What's that all about? I'm not familiar with those ratings. I assume that the "International Scale 1" refers to the International Scale of River Difficulty; see this link for an explanation: http://www.gorp.com/gorp/activity/paddling/expert/exp042501.htm Craig ----- Original Message ----- From: <Rick.Sylvia_at_ferguson.com> To: <PADDLEWISE_at_paddlewise.net> Sent: Wednesday, February 20, 2002 8:46 AM Subject: [Paddlewise] International Scale? snip > I was paying some attention to the link below, which is for the Suwannee River in southern Georgia. > > http://www.gorp.com/gorp/publishers/menasha/pad_suwa.htm > > In the "side bar", under the label "Difficulty", it says "International Scale 1; Numerical Points 5". I feel silly now. I'm familiar with Class I, II, III etc., but just wasn't making the connection between "Class" and "International Scale". The trees were in the way of seeing the woods, I suppose. The "Numerical Points" scale is described by Bob Sehlinger and Don Otey in the book, Northern Georgia Canoeing, (and presumably, in the corresponding book, Southern Goergia Canoeing, which I've just ordered.) > ----- Original Message ----- > From: <Rick.Sylvia_at_ferguson.com> > To: <PADDLEWISE_at_paddlewise.net> > Sent: Wednesday, February 20, 2002 8:46 AM > Subject: [Paddlewise] International Scale? > snip > > > I was paying some attention to the link below, which is for the Suwannee > River in southern Georgia. > > > > http://www.gorp.com/gorp/publishers/menasha/pad_suwa.htm > > > > In the "side bar", under the label "Difficulty", it says "International > Scale 1; Numerical Points 5".
