While we're on the camping theme....., I have a 5 lb. propane tank that is
good for about 6-8 meals on a small grille and I'd like to use it for camping.
I'd like some input on a small, light, single burner propane stove that would
easily fit in a kayak.

Thanks,

Ron

Oh, how I love talking about camping gear....

I have the Peak 1 "can't remember the model name" but it's very small and you screw it straight onto a butane mix canister (not your Coleman type of propane ones).

Campmor has a similar type called the MSR Rocket something for about $35. I got my stove (there's also a small lantern that screws on to your "spare" canister) at Sports Authority and believe I paid less than $35....the second one (one of those "I couldn't resist" deals) cost me $9.00 at Sports Authority - I think the packaging was missing.

I keep them in little fleece bags and they are great. I can't be bothered to mess about with liquid fuel/Whisperlites that need cleaning/repairing etc.

The butane cylinders come in two sizes.

I lost the original to this thread but the latest Canoe & Kayak has an
excellent review of camp stoves, and lots of other goodies.

I can't agree more, I have a similar set up. The fact that you can screw a lantern top on it makes the logistics soooo much easier.
