Heres the problem - I'm short on hair and have to push down and away from the cockpit before flipping otherwise I graze a bald head against the coaming or the deck bag (not sure which though got rid of the deckbag a few weeks ago). Works fine in swell and chop, haven't tried it in breaking waves. Like the idea of Doug's 45 degree paddle technique - Guess the paddle shaft is kept 45 degrees below the water until the rescue is complete, which means the boat is moving while the paddle is fixed in the water? Will try it this weekend in a Klepper.
