A quote from a Victoria Times Colonist article http://www.canada.com/victoria/timescolonist/story.asp?id={1FC609F9-0888-4679-B24F-0A07A0891AB3} describing the Haida move: "On Wednesday, the Haida initiated a lawsuit against the provincial and federal governments, saying the First Nation not only has aboriginal title to all the lands contained within the Charlottes (which they call Haida Gwaii), but also to the resources in and under the sea, including oil and gas reserves believed to be under Hecate Strait." If the above link does not work for you, then scroll down the page a ways on the Tidepool (http://www.tidepool.org/) for this link and others. If succesful, this lawsuit would probably have a big effect on sea kayak visitors to Haida Gwaii. It certainly would change the composition of the outfitters that currently serve the Park. -- Dave Kruger Astoria, OR *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
