Frank,

It would be easiest and best to be able to enter your boat from the side of
the pool, with the boat parallel to the pool edge. This leaves out most
above ground pools, unless they have a fairly extensive deck system. Also,
you might consider a square pool so that you're not launching in any curves.
If you have a composite boat make sure to pad the area where you'll be
launching from. I would imagine that you're going to want to somehow fence
the pool in so as you're planning the install, make sure that you have ample
room to carry your boat into the pool area with out wiping anything out.
Enclose your pool and you'll be rolling all winter.

Of course, no pool design is complete with the mandatory jacuzzi for after
roll-session therapy.

Subject: [Paddlewise] Backyard pool for kayaker?

Anyone have any tips for choosing a backyard pool suitable for rolling
practice? Other than size, is there anything else to consider? Are steps
leading down into the water any easier for getting in and out of the
boat? I saw a picture of a pool that had a "beach entry" (gradual
slope). Would this be worth considering? Any advice appreciated.

Thanks,
Frank
