A small group of us paddled the Oslo Conservation Area just south of
Vero Beach on the Indian River Lagoon Saturday.

It was a great paddle in that it packed a lot of wildlife and variety of
scenery into a very short trip. We paddled the Indian River to have
lunch on a small island beach all to ourselves. We went fishing in
Crawford Notch, a small protected bay on the river. And we explored
dense mangrove creeks and lakes in the west shore of the Indian River.

I particularly liked paddling the longest mangrove tunnel I've ever
encountered. I've paddled such tunnels in the 1000 Islands (Cocoa
Beach), Everglades, Florida Keys, etc., but here we were under
continuous mangrove cover for about half an hour. And all three types of
mangroves were in abundance; red, black, and white.

Photos are on our club Photo Album at http://www.spacecoastpaddlers.org.
