Hi, The reason is that as your name climbs the list (year after year) you are offered the opportunity to take the starting dates of people who cancel their trip for whatever reason ...... if you decline the date then the next person below you gets the opprtunity and so on....... the waiting list is apparently about 12 years.... but you get the chance to go well before then as there are many circumstances where people would be forced to cancel there trip as you can imagine. regards, Peter Relf. mzuschlag_at_attbi.com wrote: To receive a regular permit for the Grand Canyon the wait is about 16 years.
