The excerpt off the Tidepool (http://www.tidepool.org/) referencing a Vancouver Province article (http://www.canada.com/vancouver/story.asp?id={1CBBCBFD-076E-4F15-A77B-3EE6AB80F517}). (Note: The above URL will probably need to be pasted together to work. Very slow access.) BEGIN Guujaaw, the Haida carver who is leading his people's fight for title to the Queen Charlotte Islands, says he's a reluctant conscript who'd rather be digging clams. Born Gary Edenshaw, almost 50 years ago in Masset, he's been a carver, carpenter, singer, drummer, dancer and veteran of the Lyell Island anti-logging protests. He visited Hungary in 1993 with Haida artistic icon Bill Reid and went to look at the destruction of the Amazon rainforest with environmentalist David Suzuki in 1989. He'll patiently explain the history of the Haida from "first contact" to present day skirmishes with logging giant Weyerhaeuser.
