Funny how opinions differ on certain things. Personally, I prefer a PFD that is completely devoid of all pockets and attachment tabs on the front. I had one that was equipped with all that stuff and I thought it was cool ...., until I tried to re-enter my boat while practicing rescues one night and found that all the junk on the front snagged on the deck lines as I attempted to re-enter the boat. I literally could not get back in. In this same vein, there are some PFD's that have extra flotation foam in the front of the jacket (to insure that you float face up). I also found this to be a hindrance when trying to re-enter a swamped boat. My ideal PFD is smooth on the front, single layer of foam in front, ample arm holes and plenty of adjusting straps for a snug fit.
