<Anyone have any tips for choosing a backyard pool suitable for rolling practice? Other than size, is there anything else to consider? Are steps leading down into the water any easier for getting in and out of the boat? I saw a picture of a pool that had a "beach entry" (gradual slope). Would this be worth considering? Any advice appreciated.> Steps will not help you get into your boat- that can be done from the edge using your paddle for a brace- but steps might help you get out of the pool? Otherwise not needed for rolling. The pool must be deep enough that you can roll without hitting your head and also deep enough to allow you some range of motion with your paddle. I would say around 4 feet is a minimum, 5 or 6 feet better. The pool should be long enough for some manuvering of your boat and the fact that your boat will move somewhat during a roll - depending on what type of roll you are doing. Good luck WF *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
