What's the best (cleanest, least stinky, etc) way to do that? I
believe that there are some commercially bought "packs", but I also think I've
seen some discussion on homemade "packs".

Also, when people talk about packing waste out, are they talking about the
solids, liquids, or both?

-------------------------------------

On most expeditions I lead (short or long), I ask participants to
pack out solids. Personally, I use 2 different sized big-mouth
Nalgene containers *with screw lids* (I hate the thought of on a hot summer day
a lid popping off at an inopportune moment). One size is good for a long
weekend, the other for a week long trip. I "line" the jar with a
small garbage bag and twist-tie the top, sprinkling baking soda in the
bottom. Using a trowel, I put my stuff into a zippy, seal it using an
anti-bacterial towelette and stick the zippy into the garbage bag in the
container. At home, I can dump out the contents and the jar is clean,
ready for reuse someday.

I like the idea of "going" on something, and then just putting the
something into a container, but that adds a lot of bulk to the package.
Someone told me of using celephane (?) but said it was kind of a hassle because
they had to take the whole roll (individual pre-cut pieces ripped or were
impossible to take apart). Perhaps tin foil would work without adding too
much bulk.
