The New York Kayak Company is running a free one day event, Kayak Fest 2002, at Pier 40 in Hudson River Park this coming Sunday April 14th from 11 AM to 4 PM. A number of kayaks and accessories will be on display and available at discounts running from 10 per cent to 30 per cent. There will be a series of lectures including: Ken Fink, oceanographer and kayak guru, on KAYAK NAVIGATION Lt. Mosier, US Coast Guard, on SMALL BOAT SAFETY Reed Super, attorney for RiverKeeper, on WATER QUALITY AND ACCESS ISSUES Ralph Diaz (i.e., me), author of The Complete Folding Kayaker, on FOLDING KAYAKS Regarding the latter, you may want to note that the FirstLight Kayak from New Zealand will be on display...that's a 20 pound highly portable folding kayak. Martin Ross, rep from the NZ company, will be on hand to answer your questions. Pier 40 lines up with West Houston St. and on the Hudson River. The location of the event is the lobby with entrance under the awning about half way along the West St. side of the Pier. Easily accessible from the IRT 7th Ave local subway station.
