If there are no other volunteers, I can host such a thing on my kayakforum.com site. I can deal with MySQL, perl, PHP, etc stuff. I can put things in protected directories as needed for security. There is significant overlap between Paddlewise and people who currently use the Kayakforum. All I would ask is that the database be fairly efficient and it not be too processor intensive. A cool interface would be great so long as it doesn't get too cute or gimmicky or slow. I always think the "signal-to-noise" ratio should be kept high. The usually means a pretty basic interface. I have rarely been happy with Java stuff. They often seem very slow and often don't work as advertised. But if it does work I have nothing to complain about.
