Jeff said; > To those who chose not to wear their PFD ask your mom, dad, > spouse, person you are dating if they wished you would wear > it. The answer might surprise you. I intended to stay out of this thread, particularly since I can wait a few months and join it on the next go-round :-) But, I will add one comment to what Jeff said. Regardless of the "right vs. wrong" issues, I wear mine 100% of the time that I'm on the water. My reasons are simple. 1. I make my kids wear them, and I don't want to be a hypocrit. 2. When I got into kayaking, I promised my wife I'd wear a PFD and I try really, really hard not to break promises. There have been plenty of times that I wanted to take it off, particularly on near 100 degree summer days when I find myself exploring a side creek that's only 2 feet deep and 30 feet wide. But, I keep it on due to the reasons above. I made the promise, and one definition of integrity is what you do when nobody is looking - so I keep it on. This isn't critical of those who take it off, I'm just offering a view on why I leave mine on.
