Sandy Kramer asks: "Anyone here use [Stearns inflatable] Sospenders?"I do, and I would give them a qualified thumbs up. They're markedly more comfortable in warm weather than any other PFD that I've tried. But I would not take an inflatable PFD into "generous" sea conditions or surf, nor would I trust an inflatable PFD on cold water, where cold fingers may be too numb to pull a toggle, and there's a danger of cold shock-induced involuntary inhalation of water. The lack of pockets on Sospenders also presents a problem - I have various small pieces of safety gear hanging from the sewn-in keyring or taped to shoulder straps, and I'm considering some sort of bail-out bag for larger safety gear such as a VHF radio and flares. One more thing:- if you can roll your kayak, installation of the automatic inflation device is, as the doctors say, contra-indicated.Mike VandammGreenbelt, Maryland USA(usual apologies in the event of loss of my paragraph breaks) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: Click Here *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
