Doug offered: The other fun exercise on calmer (i.e. no wind resistance) days is to do "heats" with your paddling partner(s). Two of us will go flat out until one of us says "give", then we take a break until the next moment presents itself. A similar, and different sort of challenge exercise: Paddle in a line[two or more, number doesn't matter]. The leader paddles at a comfortable cruising pace - no speed stuff. At the signal to start the workout, the boat at the end of line sprints and moves into the front of the line. As soon as that boat is in place, the boat that is now last sprints and takes over the lead. Doesn't sound hard,,but it is a killer, especially with three or more boats!
