If you take a PFD, but don't wear it all the time, where do you store the
thing meanwhile? I think it's easiest to wear it.

Same with a helmet. I wouldn't mind the option of taking one and putting it on
when surfing, or near rocks etc, but where can you stow it? I don't want a
helmet on deck, and I don't want to wear it all the time.

Do you ever wear a PFD? In what situations?

I have solved that problem, for my vacation to Corsica. I want to wear a
helmet in surf, but don't want it on my deck or on my head the whole
day. So I made myself a foldable helmet. It consists of 1 cm closed cell
foam, from a camping-matress, covered with some very tough nylon fabric.
Of course a hard helmet would be better, but at least this is a helmet I
am prepared to take with me.

It was a tough job for my sewing machine!

Niels.
