We had an excellent club paddle on a gorgeous day Monday on the Silver River up to Silver Springs ( http://www.kayakguide.com/US-SilverRv.htm ). Our photos are at http://www.kayakguide.com/PhotoAlbum/020325%20Silver%20River%20Kayak/ When we paddle it again, we won't bother to paddle up into the tour boat-filled park concession area at the head of the river. The river downstream of the park is where the best scenery is. Some of us snorkeled in the clear 72 degree waters of this crystal clear river on the edge of the Ocala National Forest. There are several deep blue holes along the way and some rope swings. We saw abundant wildlife on this weekday paddle; snakes, many types of birds, huge gar, a number of alligators, and animated groups of rhesus monkeys said to have escaped from the filming of early Tarzan movies in the area many years ago. And I didn't know that one of my favorite TV shows, Sea Hunt, was actually filmed there and not in the ocean.
