A good place to start is http://www.canals.state.ny.us/

There are maps available from the site as well as a cruising guide which
may be purchased through the site.

Also try http://www.nycanal.com/

You can fill out a form for a free packet of information from the site. I
did just that a couple of years ago and found it pretty useful.

Another good site is http://www.bargecanals.com. It has a huge amount of
information including links to places where one can get charts.

NOAA charts are also available (try
http://www.nauticalmind.com/nm_chartsnybargecanal.html) but some claim that
detailed charts of the canal are unecessary and the many of the cruising
guides are more than sufficient.
