I started racing in 1966, quit racing in 1994, trained a lot. Since 1966 I have averaged 150 days a year paddling a kayak. Really conservative estimate of daily mileage [allowing for short slalom days and long marathon races] gives a minimum of 35,000 miles. Although I should say that my training log records time, not distance. A generous estimate would be closer to 40,000 miles. I never calculated this before, but it is really scary. Especially when I consider that it is about thirty one million strokes. If I had only worked for a dollar an hour instead I'd have a huge bank account. But I'd be really unhappy.
