Ralph says ...
|There is a rule of thumb used in the publishing world. Basically you
expect
|that a mature publication is doing its job if it is reaching about 10
per
|cent of its targeted audience or market. This formula doesn't always
work
|but it certainly gives you something to wrap your hands on. ....

Your analisys sounds good to me Ralph, but remember that those magazines
have subscribers all around the globe. Your estimates would be accurate
only if the proportion of non-american subscribers is minimal so you can
discard it. If not, I don't feel these magazines are known enought to
consider they reach 10 % of the paddling comunity of the planet. We still
have huge comunities who rely on paddling as their mayor transportation
system, but still isolated enough to know about the existance of these
magazines.

Anyway I am convinced that the USA and Canada have the biggest ratio of
paddlers per inhabitant of the world. Another refference point can be
this list. I asked Kirk about it some time ago ind if I remember well he
said paddlewise has about 750 subscribers, I gess probably 70 % are from
the usa and canada. Australia and New Zeland may be the third on the list
...
But I don't think this refference would be a fair representation anyway.
