Sea Kayakers, Pedro Frigola, Bryant Burkhardt and I completed crossings to and from Santa Barbara Island in Southern California this Memorial Day weekend. On Saturday morning we launched from Point Dume and completed the 34 nautical mile (39 statute mile) crossing to Santa Barbara Island in 12 hours. On Sunday morning, we did a 5 nautical mile (6 statute mile) circumnavigation the island and also hiked it. After taking a nap that afternoon, we launched that evening for a 40 nautical mile (46 statute mile) overnight crossing to Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro. We completed the overnight crossing on Monday morning after 13 hours of paddling. The whole trip was completed in 49 hours. We had an awesome adventure, and all of the interesting details will come later in a full trip report.
