Much better than kitty litter is SBG-1 http://www.urinbiz.com/sbg1.htm

I started out with the PETT porta-potty system for van camping
http://www.baproducts.com/pett.htm The unit itself is fabulous because it
folds to the size of a briefcase. The waste containment system used some
crystals and each pack contains tissue paper and a handiwipe. The two bags
are biodegradable. The downside is that it costs $2.00 per use....tho on one
desperate night I actually got 4 pees out of it but I knew I was pushing the
system. I wanted some more crystals - it's a really big bag. (See SBG-1
above).

The downside of the biodegradable bags is that I bought a 12-pack box with
the system and the outer green bags were a wee bit crumbly....now, several
months later, I see that the blacks bags have already started to degrade.

Now I use the SBG-1 ($18 for a 16 oz jar that will solidify up to 6 gallons
of liquid waste. It would be easy to put smaller amounts into a small jar
or ziplock: 3 oz will solidify up to a gallon of liquid waste. Even after
use, the smell is very pleasant! I have not been desperate enough to use it
for solid waste, yet.

I also got the Privacy tent. At first I was paranoid about other people
sharing MY toilet and didn't know how to handle it. The first night I had
company in the popup camper, I heard a lady friend get up in the middle of
the night. She walked around, obviously decided that the rest room was waaay
too far away, there were no bushes around, and I heard her zip up the privacy
tent.

Next morning....no problem...no smells. Later in the day another lady friend
asked if she could use it and again...no problem. BTW, Stephen, thanks for
making me look this up again. I just discovered that I was supposed to be
adding water!

CampMor sells this but I got mine from Cabela's because the tent was about
$10 cheaper. The list prices in the URL I posted above are just that. I
think they had a hard time selling them at list so started to discount them.
Campmor has the toilet for $75 and the tent for $95. If you go to
http://www.cabelas.com/ and type pett in the search blank (stands for PETT -
Portable Environmentla Toilet) you can see a good photo of the set-up.

I'm afraid I use the scented plastic bags. I don't use it that often and
when you think of all the disposable diapers (that no one is trying to forbid
people from using), plastic bags with dog poop, not to mention the regular
plastic bags..........
