Just a big happy holiday wish to all Canadian and American paddlers in Paddlewise land -- we're right between the two countries' respective celebrations, and so also wishing both nations continued prosperity and freedom and the right to paddle in peace with liberty. We indeed live in two beautiful countries with varied coastlines and great lakes to paddle on too. I celebrated Canada Day paddling around Victoria's inner harbour Monday night, taking in the fireworks from the water's relatively uncrowded vantage...well, until all the motor boats left in a scramble. The police did make a few great arrests I noticed. Boating and drinking are two things under specific scrutiny these days. I did some pre-fireworks rolls to the cheers of a few hundred folks amongst the crowd of 60,000 along the causeway. Some folks threw money -- twang, right on my head! Lost a headlamp to the water gods doing my impression of an illuminated Inuit roll, but now I have an excuse to buy a new LED headlamp.
