As of this writing, 07/31/02 3:00 AM, 2 paddlers are reported missing in the Cold Spring, NY area of the Hudson River. Both paddlers launched from the area of Cold Spring at about 4 PM. on 07/30/02. Their destination was, according to relatives, to be either Bannermans Island or maybe Constitution Marsh. The boat is reported as a 14' Green fiberglass canoe. Unknown make. No additional floatation bags were known to be on the boat. The paddlers were reported to have had on PFD's. One was a green color . The other orange. No signaling devices were known to be in the possession of the paddlers. No cell phone or radio. Their level of experience was reported as having "once" paddled. Conditions on the Hudson in the Bannerman Is. were choppy at about 4 PM by my own observation. Three helo's from NYSP, Westchester County DPS and USCG searched the area until about 3 AM without any results. Anyone finding the boat or any related items should contact the Putnam County Sheriff or the Cold Spring PD.
