	Someone asked the other day about kayak death reports.  I did a news
search of US papers, wire services, and television and found 18 reports of
19.  The attributions for causes vary from heart attack, accident, no pfd to
bad judgment.  If you want more details you may be able to find an archive

	1.	The San Diego Union-Tribune  July 8, 2002, Monday Pg. A-4
	Crash between ski boat and a kayaker at the entrance to Emerald Bay
on Tahoe's west shore, an investigation into the cause is under way. 

	2.	The Morning Call (Allentown, PA) July 8, 2002 Monday FIRST
EDITION
	A Montgomery County man  died  Sunday morning while saving his
nephew from drowning in Tunkhannock Township while the two were  kayaking, 

	3.	July 4, 2002, Thursday Austin, TX off-duty firefighter
drowns in kayaking accident on rain-swollen Barton Creek, Horne was wearing
a life jacket and a helmet. 

	4.	THE HARTFORD COURANT 21, 2002 Friday, Pg. B8
	Joe Michael Altieri, Jr., 29, of White Fish, MT,  died  Saturday,
(June 15, 2002)  kayaking  a beautiful, wild river in Creston, British
Columbia.

	5.	The Denver Post Corporation  June 10, 2002 Monday 2D EDITION
	A kayaker who drowned in South Boulder Creek on Saturday

	6a.	Maine Sunday Telegram  June 9, 2002 Sunday, Final Edition
	On Sunday, Robert Naughton, 62, of Medfield, Mass., was kayaking for
the first time with a life vest on Long Pond in Parsonsfield when his craft
flipped.  They attribute this drowning to a heart attack, he had an
angioplasty the week before.  

	6b.	On Monday, 27-year-old Charles  Boydston of Portland was
found floating in Casco Bay off East End Beach with a life vest.  This was
originally reported incorrectly as without a pfd and they published a
correction.

	7.	Orange County, CA Dana Point May 20, 2002
	An autopsy done today on a 46-year-old  kayaker  who overturned and
died  in Dana Point Harbor showed that he drowned. (heart attack related
drowning)

	8.	The Washington Times  May 17, 2002, Friday, Final Edition
Metro Obits; Pg. B02
	Dr. Edward S. Mohn, an anesthesiologist in Henderson, Ky., was
killed May 4 in a  kayaking accident  in Sweetwater, Tenn.

	9.	WXYZ_TV  May 13, 2002, Monday PM
	The  kayaker that died  on Lake St. Clair Friday was knocked
unconscious.

	10.	Charleston Daily Mail April 30, 2002, Tuesday News; Pg. P7A
	Bemis police reported a Randolph County man has died in a  kayaking
accident.  Joseph Richard Steffl, 30, of Bowden 

	11.	Sarasota Herald-Tribune April 5, 2002  Pg. BC3
	A couple's island  kayaking  holiday took a tragic turn Thursday,
when the husband  died  during a trip across Pine Island Sound.

	12.	April 5, 2002, Friday, AP News
	Fort Worth, TX body of missing kayaker found.  It is believed he
died while going over a dam in E Ft Worth, he was not wearing a PFD.

	13.	WKBW-TV Eyewitness News Eleven  March 31, 2002, Sunday PM
	Fort Erie, Ontario. A jogger found the body of a man on the shores
of Crescent Beach Bay   Police believe the death was " accidental, " that
the victim was using his recently purchased  kayak  without a life jacket. 

	14.	AP Wires story March 25, 2002, Monday, BC cycle
	Kayaker  missing, presumed drowned in Trinity River  accident near
Fort Worth, TX.  Two men were paddling single kayaks.  Carrico, 31, said he
tried to find Wilson after the  accident but couldn't.  Neither was wearing
a life jacket

	15.	WMGM-TV  March 25, 2002, Monday PM Atlantic City, NJ Marine
Police investigating fatal  kayak accident  off Beach Haven West.

	16.	WHDH-TV March 20, 2002, Wednesday PM
	Virgin Islands police are investigating after a Boston lawyer was
killed in a  kayak accident. A small speedboat crashed into her.

	17.	Anchorage Daily News February 3, 2002 Sunday, FINAL EDITION
METRO; Pg. B1
	Bethany Lynn dies in Alaska kayaking incident, when she died of the
cold and her body was swept off a cliff by the tide.

	18.	News & Record (Greensboro, NC) January 24, 2002 Thursday ALL
EDITIONS; Pg. B6
	Charles Paul Horner, 32, died in a  kayaking accident  in Ecuador on
Jan. 20, 2002.
