Thank you Shirley Ireton for mentioning Coming into the Country. McPhee is one of my favorite writers and Klepper is my kayak of choice. I've never read anything by McPhee that wasn't well written and interesting no matter what the subject. Also of interest to paddlers is McPhee's The Survival of the Bark Canoe. It's available from Amazon for the bargain price of $8.80. This was the book that got me hooked on McPhee. I love this book and periodically reread it. It never seems to get tired. I have no idea if it's still in print but about the same time as Coming into the Country came out, I picked up The Cama-i Book. I hope I got the spelling right. Several good chapters on Alaska kayaks and kayak hunting plus a lot of stories from Alaska old timers.
