Out of curiosity what number/letter combination did Illinois assign to you. I'm curious because I don't see a MIC (Manuf. Id. Code) for CLC on the USCG website and I collect information like this. I'm also interested if they are conforming to the USCG HIN rules or making up their own. If it conforms to CG rules I'll interpret the number for you if you would like. The information Illinois gave you about affixing the number to the transom is right out of the CG rule book. Note many manufacturers put the number above the seam line (I suppose it could be argued that that is part of the "hull" of a kayak even though most kayaker's would call that part the deck).
