G'day all; I have carried a SEE/RESCUE streamer attached to my PFD for several years. Wouldn't go to sea without it, along with other 'passive' backup items such as dye, and a mirror. All for use in 'long range' rescue, rather than 'up close and personal' rescue where items such as a whistle come into play. The advantages of a streamer as I see it: # Low tech. With no batteries to go dead. # High efficiency. See the link below for demonstrated visual effectivness at sea. # Developed for air rescue. If people are seriously looking for me at sea, they will probably use aircraft in the first instance. The streamer is ideal for this in daytime. # Can withstand abuse. Basically a roll of coloured plastic. I carry mine attached permanently to my PFD. It is light and small and low cost. I bought two POCKET SEE/RESCUES from the manufacturer in Hawaii.
