[Paddlewise] Hip snap drives coaming into ribs-ouch!

Hi, folks:

So I finally wrapped up my custom foam cockpit for my Necky Tesla NM, and
we took it out for testing about six weeks ago (got married a week ago or
so, hence the delay between testing and posting).

It fits well at the thigh braces and in the rear end, but there's a
problem, and it's a big one. When I try to hip-snap, it's possible, but
incredibly uncomfortable-I find the hip-snap required to do a standard
roll actually drives the coaming of the boat directly into my side, at
around the level of the lowest rib. Not only am I not getting full
rotation from the hip snap, I'm causing myself pain, and creating
aversion to the technique, which is never good. I don't want to be
hesitating in my roll because I'm thinking 'jesus, this is going to hurt'.

What are some good ways to solve this? I'm a big guy-6'3" and 260+ pounds,
and I'm never going to have a gymnast's physique. Does this mean I'm
sitting too low in the boat? What could be going on here that's causing
this, and what advice do folks have on possible solutions?

Thanks very much in advance for any advice; I can provide measurements if
they might be useful.

Frustrated,

.ashton
