I've been married 15 years and my wife puts up with Kayaks and antique
single shot rifles. Stored everywhere. As long as I don't go crazy, " I
don't chase other women, I don't gamble, I don't hang out in bars and come
home drunk, I'm polite to your mother, and never forget your birthday or
our anniversary" works great, but you absolutely, no exceptions, no
apologies, must abide by those self imposed rules. Violate any one and
you're in trouble plenty old boy.

Here's how I've addressed the "what do you need another kayak for" dilema.
I
believe in reaching a critical mass of 3 to 4 kayaks. It also helps to
return
home with other people's kayaks on your car. Tell her you are carrying
them
or storing them for friends. If you have kids it also helps to get them
kayaks. An occasional nice present for the wife will also work wonders.

Periodically sell a kayak or leave it with a friend for a period of time.
This provided the illusion of reducing the fleet, and the additional of
another kayak becomes less noticeable.

Finally, be supportive of the wife's hobbies. Pay her credit card bills
without asking probing questions as to the meaning of the charges.

Finally, by the time you fleet reaches 8 or so kayaks, they just give up.

I have applied this theory to gold clubs, wood working tools, photography
equipment and kayaks for 22 wonderful years of marriage. Of course my will

places my "toys" into a trust fund under the careful stewardship of my
lawyer
brother. And, if my testimony is not enought, my father followed this same

theory for 55 years of marriage.

Now, since the woman out there in paddlewise land may react to the male
nature of my reply and advice, please simply turn the table and substitute

husband for wife and it will also work for you.
