I haven't had much luck finding spotters and, for a newbie who still blows it as often as not, it gets tiresome to have to bail, reenter, pump etc. when practicing." Check out Brookspaddlegear.com, the Greenland gear. Tha Avataq floatation device will work. Grab it off the stern deck and roll up with it. Or (cheap) get to pieces of 2" ethafoam cut a paddle channel and duct tape the pieces together. One for each blade if you want. The paddle face is still flat so you can paddle with them on, as opposed to a inflatable paddle float, plus as you get more confident you just hack away at the foam until there's nothing left.
