Steve, I did a little bracing as the sea lion climbed on board, but then I put the paddle across my cockpit as I used both hands to take the picture with a handy waterproof disposable camera that I almost always carry in a PFD pocket. The event was caught on video tape by a friend too. On the video tape, the sea lion can be seen jumping on my back deck and front deck. It happened at the landing cove of Santa Barbara Island in April of 2000. With so few kayakers visiting the island, the sea lion pups were very curious about us. It was a once in a life time moment, and I felt so lucky to also get a photo and video of it. What are the chances of that?
