John, I got the same rotten odor in my Aqua Sox after paddling in a local lake. I thought it was algae. Anyway, I soaked them in 1 part chlorine bleach to 10 parts water, rinsed them thoroughly, and the smell went away ...., for awhile. A couple trips later it was back again so I now routinely soak and rinse them after every use.
