I have just sent my second e-trex back to Garminfor replacement. The first ones screen was about 80% covered with condesate. I'd had it for a year and a half but though I'd call the factory anyway and they were great about replacing it even though the warrenty period was past. My second unit lasted 2 days on the deck of my kayak and showed half full of water when held upright. This time the Garmin rep. said that because of the greater cohesiveness of splashed water and falling rain as opposed to that of submersion, I had exceeded the waterproof rating. (Just B.S.?) He said I should always use a waterproof bag. Anyway he finally relented and had me send it in. I have a friend who is on his 5th unit and Garmin gave him some kind of account no. that pays for shipping the units to the factory. I was afraid to push for that. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
