I carried my 2 piece paddle to the Sweetwater Symposium last year in my friend's gun case. I checked it through. I had no trouble up North, but when I tried to check it in Tampa, it was pretty comical. I ended up with a bunch of sky-caps staring at the case and me at curb-side. Finally, one of them said to me "do you know what that is?" Always on the ball, I answered "yep. A rifle case." Pregnant silence. Finally, I offered to open it. They seemed a bit concerned with that but finally agreed. They all laughed when they saw my kayak paddle.
