I do a sliding stroke with a EP exactly like a non-sliding (fixed) stroke, I just add the slide. This makes it so I don't loose any of the indexing I get from the shape of the shaft. Therefore if the indexing is sufficient for a fixed stroke it should still be sufficient if you slide it. This of course doesn't work if you have one of those cheap EPs with the little index taped on just in the grip area.
